Getting started and accounts
What is DayTradeDrill, and what can I use it for?
DayTradeDrill is a historical-market replay and simulated-trading practice tool. You can inspect price action step by step, practice entries and exits manually, and review each session's performance; depending on your plan, you can also use custom indicators or strategy backtesting.
Intrabar prices follow a simulated path generated from one-minute OHLC data. DayTradeDrill does not connect to a live broker or place real orders.
Do I need an account, and how do I sign in to save results?
You can use basic replay and manual trading without signing in. To save a review to your account and view it on another device, create an account or sign in with the email Magic Link flow; there is no password or phone sign-in.
On your first visit, choose sign up, complete the required legal consent, and open the link sent to your email. If saving fails, keep the page open and retry; signing in does not by itself mean the result was saved.
- Choose Sign up on the sign-in page.
- Complete the required legal consent and request an email link.
- Open the link in your email, then confirm that the review shows a successful save.
A successful sign-in and a successful result save are separate states.
How do I start my first manual backtesting session?
From Start Training, open the session selector and choose an available forex preset or import your own minute data. Set the starting capital, costs, and training options, then start replay, trade manually in the workspace, and finish the session to review it.
Manual backtesting means making trading decisions while watching historical replay. Automated script testing is Strategy Replay, which requires Pro.
- Open the session selector from Start Training.
- Choose an available data preset or import a local minute-data file.
- Review capital, costs, and training settings.
- Start replay and place simulated trades manually.
- Finish the session and open its review.
Can I use DayTradeDrill on mobile, and which languages are supported?
The website supports English, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish. Open the flag and language menu in the top navigation, then choose English, Español, or 中文. On a narrow screen, open the site navigation menu first.
The FAQ is readable on a phone. A wider desktop browser is more comfortable for viewing multiple charts, placing manual trades, and editing scripts; on mobile, choose a simpler layout for the available space.
- On a narrow screen, open the site navigation menu.
- Open the flag and language menu.
- Choose English, Español, or 中文.
Trading and script editing work best with enough screen space.
Plans and billing
What is the difference between Free, Plus, and Pro?
Free includes basic practice and access to up to 3 account-saved results. Plus adds custom Indicators, Indicator cloud sync, and a 200-result saved-history limit. Pro adds Strategy Replay, the currently implemented Strategy source cloud sync, and a 2,000-result limit.
The current base monthly prices are Free at no charge, Plus at USD 14.90, and Pro at USD 29.90. Check Paddle checkout for the local currency, applicable taxes, and the actual amount due.
An eligible discount code can be checked when confirming a new subscription. Availability depends on the code’s plan, expiry, and usage conditions; no code is guaranteed to be available. Review its duration and the amount in your own checkout before paying.
These are base USD monthly prices; the checkout page determines the final local amount.
Are the saved-session limits monthly backtesting limits?
No. The 3, 200, and 2,000 limits refer to the number of historical results that an account can save and access; they are not monthly training-session allowances and do not reset each month.
If you reach your plan's limit when saving, the site will show a limit message. Manage the visible records or choose a suitable plan, then retry; export important records before deleting anything. Results above a downgraded plan's limit are archived, and access is governed by the current limit.
- Check the limit message in Dashboard History.
- Export any important result before deleting records.
- Manage the visible records or select a suitable plan, then retry the save.
Saved-result limits are separate from how often you can train.
How do I use a discount code, pay, and confirm access?
For a new Plus or Pro subscription, review the plan confirmation before continuing to Paddle. A discount code is optional: verify it, check the amount and whether it applies once, for a limited number of billing periods, or to ongoing renewals. If you edit the code, verify it again; you can also continue without a code.
After checkout, the site verifies billing before granting access. Closing an unpaid Paddle window does not complete payment or cancel the checkout. Check Billing in your Dashboard, continue the pending checkout, or choose Cancel unpaid checkout and wait for Paddle to confirm cancellation before selecting another plan. Avoid a second purchase while verification is pending.
A failed first payment does not unlock paid features. For renewal problems, follow the page instructions to update your payment method. If the issue persists, contact support with the on-screen reference and approximate time; do not send your full card number.
- Choose a plan and review its confirmation; verify an optional discount code and its duration.
- Continue to Paddle and check the final currency, taxes, and amount due.
- Open Dashboard Billing and wait for verification, or resolve an unpaid checkout using the displayed controls.
An unpaid checkout must be confirmed as cancelled before you can change its plan. Closing the payment window alone is insufficient.
How do I upgrade from Plus to Pro?
In Dashboard Billing, open plan management and select Pro. Review the amount, any credit, and the effective-date details shown in Paddle before confirming.
Pro access is granted only after the upgrade payment has been verified. The amount depends on your current subscription and Paddle's preview, so do not estimate it as a fixed price difference. Resolve any pending billing action first. If cancellation is scheduled, undo the cancellation before changing plans.
- Open plan management from Dashboard Billing. If cancellation is scheduled, undo it first.
- Select Pro and review the Paddle preview, including the amount, credits, and timing.
- Confirm the change and wait for payment verification before using Pro features.
Discount codes apply to new subscriptions, not to changes of an existing subscription plan.
When does a Pro-to-Plus downgrade take effect?
Under the current design, a downgrade takes effect after the already-paid Pro billing period ends, and Pro access remains during that paid period. The next period depends on successful verification of the Plus renewal, so check the effective date and next-period amount shown on the billing page.
Historical results above the new limit are archived rather than deleted. Cloud scripts that are no longer available under the lower plan are retained, but access and editing are restricted; local scripts are not deleted by the downgrade. If the page offers a Keep Pro option for a scheduled downgrade, review and confirm that flow there.
- Review the scheduled effective date and next-period amount in Billing.
- If needed, use the on-screen Keep Pro flow while the downgrade is still scheduled.
- After the change, check how archived results and cloud scripts are available under the new plan.
Check the effective date and next-period amount displayed in Billing.
How do I cancel my subscription or undo a scheduled cancellation?
Use the cancellation option in Dashboard Billing, or the management link in a Paddle email. Cancellation usually stops renewal at the end of the current billing period; the page shows the specific end date, and paid access follows that date and the verified billing period.
You can undo a scheduled cancellation before it takes effect if the page offers that option. Once a subscription has ended, you need to subscribe again. If both a Pro downgrade and cancellation are scheduled, cancellation does not renew you onto Plus; undoing cancellation does not remove the downgrade, which must be handled separately.
- Open Billing and review the displayed end date.
- Choose the cancellation option and follow the confirmation steps.
- Before the scheduled end date, use the displayed undo option if you want to keep the subscription.
- If a downgrade is also scheduled, manage that change separately.
Use the published billing and refund policy for refund eligibility.
Does cancellation include a refund, and who handles billing issues?
Cancellation generally stops future renewals; it does not automatically refund the current paid period. Paddle handles payments, receipts, and refund requests, which you can check through your Paddle receipt or account-management link.
For product-use questions, contact support@daytradedrill.com. Refund eligibility depends on the transaction, location, and applicable policy; submitting a request does not guarantee approval. Published billing and refund terms and non-waivable statutory rights apply.
- For a payment or receipt question, open the relevant Paddle receipt or management link.
- Use the available Paddle route to request or check a refund.
- For a product-use question, contact support@daytradedrill.com.
Manual replay and training
How do replay speed, stepping, and multi-timeframe charts work?
The workspace provides play and pause, advance-by-event, advance-to-minute-end, and speed controls. You can change the chart layout and choose a timeframe for each chart; all charts share the same replay progress and show only market data revealed by that point.
Changing a timeframe does not restart trading, and changing speed should not change the fills for the same event sequence. Pause first when you want to advance carefully.
- Pause replay when you want to inspect a specific point.
- Choose a speed or advance one event at a time or to the end of the minute.
- Change the chart layout or a chart's timeframe as needed.
How do I place simulated orders and manage stops, targets, and partial exits?
In the manual trading panel, choose a direction, quantity, and order type; enter a limit price, stop loss, or take profit if needed, then submit the simulated order. The positions and orders area lets you cancel orders, edit protection settings, and close part or all of a position.
Quantity and price must follow the instrument's or imported data's increments and capital rules. Orders execute against synthetic price events, so submission does not guarantee an immediate fill at the price you expect.
- Choose direction, quantity, and market or limit order type.
- Set a limit price and any stop-loss or take-profit levels.
- Submit the simulated order, then manage it in the positions and orders area.
Orders are simulated and do not reach a broker.
How do I configure fees, spread, slippage, and contract settings?
Review the cost settings before training. For a local data import, also set trading rules such as price tick size, contract multiplier, and quantity step; the site does not infer real contract specifications from a CSV file.
Local imports default to zero fees and slippage, so adjust them to match your practice assumptions. Execution and spread costs are already reflected in net P&L and should not be subtracted a second time; the system does not automatically convert between currencies.
- Before replay, review the fee, spread, and slippage assumptions.
- For imported data, set tick size, contract multiplier, and quantity step.
- Check the displayed net result without subtracting execution costs again.
What does blind practice hide, and can I still use indicators?
Blind practice is intended to reduce the influence of information such as the instrument name and actual date on your decisions. Prices and price-based indicators can still be calculated.
The interface and script metadata hide or map information according to blind-practice rules, so scripts that depend on dates or times may behave differently. Blind practice is not browser-data protection or a competition anti-cheat system. While a strategy is running in a blind session, full testing is limited to the events already revealed; future results should not be visible.
Blind practice does not conceal your data from the browser or provide anti-cheat protection.
Can I recover after a refresh or replay the same scenario?
A replay can recover in the same browser when its local storage is available; for imported data, the session's required range and warm-up data are stored locally. Clearing browser data or switching browser, device, or site domain does not carry the local market data with you.
Replay the same scenario starts a new set of trades rather than rewinding the old result. You can view account-saved history, but that does not mean a complete replay session can continue on another device.
- After refreshing, use the recovery option shown for the existing session.
- Keep the original browser data available if you need the imported market data.
- Use replay-same-scenario to start over; review the old result separately.
Local market data does not automatically move to another browser or device.
Custom data
Which markets are available, and can I use stock or futures data?
The site's current presets cover available forex data only; check the session selector for the actual instruments and date coverage. You may import your own stock, futures, or other-market data if it passes the local one-minute file checks and trading-rule settings.
Import support does not mean the site provides official presets for those markets or a complete exchange model. Custom ranges are treated as continuous UTC data; exchange calendars are not inferred automatically.
Check the current session selector for the preset instruments and coverage.
How do I import my own historical data for replay?
In the session selector, open Import Local Data, choose a file, and set the price tick size, timestamp meaning, UTC offset, and contract parameters. Validate and preview the data, then review the cost settings. The default random mode chooses a validated continuous range when replay starts without revealing its dates in advance. To select a specific range, switch to manual mode and check its UTC start and end times.
The browser reads the file locally; the raw market-data file is not uploaded. If validation fails, fix the reported issue before continuing so incorrect timestamps or multipliers do not produce misleading results.
- Open Import Local Data and choose your file.
- Set timestamp meaning, UTC offset, price tick size, and contract parameters.
- Validate and preview the data, then review costs.
- Keep random selection, or choose manual selection and check the range’s UTC times.
- Start replay.
The imported raw market-data file stays in the browser.
What CSV format and data limits are supported?
Use a UTF-8 file with timestamp (or time, datetime, or date), open, high, low, and close columns; volume is optional. Headerless semicolon-delimited M1 files are also supported. The current limits are 40 MiB and 500,000 one-minute bars. Each candidate replay range needs at least 50 completed hourly bars for warm-up, followed by at least 30 continuous minutes. Ranges are split by UTC day and can be no longer than one UTC day; this is not an unrestricted full-history backtest. Convert Excel files, archives, and tick data before importing.
CSV format example
timestamp,open,high,low,close,volume
2024-01-01T00:00:00Z,1.10000,1.10020,1.09980,1.10010,100This single data row illustrates the format only; it is not enough data to train.
How do I fix timestamp, price-grid, or missing-data import errors?
Check the reported row first. Timestamps must be ascending, unique, and on whole-minute boundaries; OHLC values must be valid, positive, and aligned to the configured tick size.
If timestamps have no explicit timezone, use the fixed UTC offset you entered. The importer does not infer daylight-saving time, and you must select whether timestamps represent the minute's start or end. Gaps are not filled automatically, and rows are not silently sorted or rounded; correct the file or choose a valid continuous range, then validate again.
- Inspect the row and field named in the validation message.
- Correct timestamp order, duplicates, minute alignment, OHLC values, or tick-size alignment.
- Set the correct fixed UTC offset and minute-start or minute-end meaning.
- Fix gaps or select a valid continuous range, then run validation again.
Daylight-saving transitions are not inferred automatically.
Is my imported market data uploaded or synced to other devices?
Imported market data is read in the browser, and the session's required range and warm-up data are stored in local IndexedDB. The bars are not uploaded to the server, and there is no cloud backup of them; after clearing browser data or changing devices, import the file again.
Account-saved trades and performance, and scripts you choose to sync, are separate from market data. They cannot restore lost bars, so keep your original data file.
Account history and script sync do not include a cloud copy of your market-data file.
Performance reports and Dashboard
Where can I find my performance report, and what does it include?
After ending a session, open its review to see net P&L, costs, equity and drawdown curves, win rate, completed trades, and fill details. If you signed in and the save succeeded, you can reopen the review from Dashboard History.
The report describes one session of simulated trading; it is not an investment report or a forecast of real returns. When there are no trades or a metric lacks the data needed to calculate it, the page shows an empty state or a dash instead of inventing a result.
History reviews can include notes and comma-separated tags. Save your changes and wait for the confirmation.
- End the replay session and open its review.
- Check the overview, curves, trade list, and fill details.
- After a successful account save, reopen it from Dashboard History.
Performance results describe simulated trades and do not predict future returns.
How are drawdown, profit factor, and win rate calculated?
Maximum drawdown is calculated from equity as it updates at each simulated price event, relative to the previous peak. Profit factor is the total net profit of completed winning trades divided by the absolute total net loss of completed losing trades; win rate is completed winning trades divided by all completed trades.
Adds and partial exits are combined into one completed trade from flat until the position is flat again. If a required denominator is missing, such as when there are no losing trades for profit factor, the metric displays a dash. Net P&L already includes fees and execution costs.
A saved replay-account equity curve in History includes unrealized P&L. For records without a usable saved curve, History can build a realized equity curve after all completed trades load. This curve excludes unrealized P&L and does not reproduce the original intrabar drawdown. Check the curve label when comparing results.
The figures use the session's simulated trade ledger and its displayed cost assumptions.
Can I export trade records or share a result image?
The completed session review offers Export JSON Record, a structured file containing the summary, trades, equity and drawdown series, and run and cost information. It is for saving, checking, or analyzing the session; it is not the complete raw market-data file. Blind-practice exports hide or map visible time and instrument metadata.
Share results opens a preview, including for an anonymous current session. You can download a PNG result card, copy its message and link, or download the message as TXT. Check the preview and use Hide monetary amounts if needed. The link points to the site homepage, not a public personal report; download the image and attach it yourself in the channel where you choose to send it.
- Open the completed session review.
- Use Export JSON Record for the structured record, or Share results for the image and message.
- Check the share preview and privacy control, then download the PNG or copy/download the message.
- Attach the image and confirm sending in your chosen channel.
Result cards show simulated training, not live trading performance. PDF reports and built-in CSV export are not currently available.
What can I manage in the Dashboard?
The Dashboard is the account center and currently has four tabs: Overview, History, Indicators & strategies, and Billing. History contains saved results, Indicators & strategies opens the script manager, and Billing is where you manage plans and payments.
Overview provides management shortcuts. It is not currently a cross-session cumulative performance chart, portfolio-analysis tool, or real-time market monitor.
- Open Dashboard from the account navigation.
- Choose History for saved reviews, Indicators & strategies for scripts, or Billing for plans and payments.
Can I view saved results on another device?
After the session confirms that it was saved to your account, sign in to the same account on another device and open Dashboard History to view its trades and performance. Saved results do not contain the original market-data bars, so they do not guarantee recalculation or restoration of a complete replay.
The enhanced History view uses the saved replay account equity curve when available, including unrealized P&L. For older records without a usable saved curve, it loads all completed trades to show a realized equity curve based on initial capital and closed-trade net P&L. This fallback excludes unrealized P&L; a failed or incomplete trade load is not shown as a complete curve. Both curves describe one session, not a cross-session portfolio.
Where available, notes and comma-separated tags can be saved from the History review. Wait for confirmation. If cloud annotations changed, keep a copy of unsaved text before reloading the cloud version; review it before saving again.
Saved History also offers Share results. Its PNG uses a usable saved curve only. If that curve was not stored, the image states this even when the History page can show a realized equity fallback. Opening the sharing panel does not make the saved report public.
If you downgrade, results above the new plan limit are archived and access follows the current limit. Syncing account history does not sync the live replay workspace.
- Confirm the result shows that it was saved to your account.
- Sign in to the same account on the other device.
- Open Dashboard History and select the saved review.
- Read the curve label. If notes and tags are available, save changes and wait for confirmation.
Saved performance history does not include the original market-data bars or a resumable replay session.
Built-in and custom indicators
How do I add and configure built-in indicators?
In the replay workspace, open the indicator menu, choose an available built-in indicator, and use its settings to change parameters or remove it. Built-in indicators are separate from custom Pine Indicators, which require Plus or Pro.
Indicators use the market data revealed so far. If there is not enough warm-up history, do not treat a blank value as a valid signal; the available indicators and parameters are those shown in the current menu.
- Open the indicator menu in the replay workspace.
- Choose a built-in indicator and adjust its settings if needed.
- Use the indicator controls to remove it when you no longer need it.
How do I create and use a custom Pine indicator?
Custom Indicators require Plus or Pro. In the Indicators & Strategies manager, create an Indicator, write supported Pine v6 code, validate it, and save the local version.
In replay, open the custom-indicator menu, select the script, timeframe, and parameters, then apply it. Reapply after changing code or settings as directed by the current interface; a local save does not mean the script was uploaded to the cloud.
- In Dashboard Indicators & Strategies, create an Indicator.
- Write supported Pine v6 code and validate it.
- Save the local script, then open the custom-indicator menu in replay.
- Choose its timeframe and parameters and apply it.
A local script save does not automatically upload the script.
Is every TradingView Pine v6 script supported?
No. DayTradeDrill supports a defined subset of Pine v6, not every TradingView script. Supported functions, parameters, and types are reflected in the current validation and autocomplete; for example, request.security is not currently supported.
If the editor reports an unsupported feature, change the script based on the diagnostic. Partial execution or a failed run is not a valid backtest, and results can still differ even when a script compiles because the market path and execution model are simulated.
request.security is outside the current supported subset.
How do code completion and script diagnostics work?
The editor offers completion for functions, parameters, and built-in values supported by the current engine. Completion can help you write code, but it does not guarantee that the whole script is valid.
Validate before saving or applying, then fix the reported line and column for syntax, unsupported features, or parameter issues. Runtime errors may also come from data, order increments, or resource limits. Start with a simple script and add logic gradually; a failed or incomplete strategy run is not a complete performance result.
- Start with a small script and use completion for supported functions and parameters.
- Validate it and inspect the diagnostic's line, column, and reason.
- Fix syntax, unsupported features, or invalid parameters, then validate again.
- If a run fails, also check the data, order increments, and resource limits.
Cloud sync and custom strategies
What is synced to the cloud, and what stays in my browser?
An account can save completed reviews with their trade and performance information. Scripts sync only after you explicitly upload them or enable automatic upload. Indicator cloud sync currently requires Plus or Pro; Strategy source cloud sync requires Pro. Free does not include script cloud sync.
A saved review can sync chart drawings after the result is saved and provide notes and tags in History. Check each confirmation separately. If drawing sync fails, local drawings remain saved and you can retry.
Original market-data bars, browser-local imported data, and the entire in-progress replay workspace are not automatically synced. Saved-review annotations, account history, and script uploads are separate flows; a successful script upload does not confirm a review or drawing save.
Market-data files, locally imported bars, and the in-progress replay workspace are not included in script sync.
How do I upload scripts or enable automatic cloud upload?
Sign in to an account with the required plan, then choose Upload to Cloud in the Indicators & Strategies manager, or read the confirmation and enable Automatic Cloud Upload. Turning it on uploads eligible unsynced scripts and syncs later changes.
On another device, sign in to the same account and sync to retrieve uploaded scripts. Turning off automatic upload does not delete an existing cloud copy. Check for the Synced to cloud status; if an upload fails, the local script remains available.
- Sign in with an account that has the required plan.
- Choose Upload to Cloud, or review the prompt before enabling Automatic Cloud Upload.
- Confirm the script shows Synced to cloud.
- On another device, sign in to the same account and sync the library.
How do I resolve cloud sync conflicts without losing my script?
A conflict means that both the local and cloud versions have changed. Keep a copy of important source code, compare the versions, and read the confirmation carefully: choosing the cloud version replaces the local version, while replacing the cloud version with the local version overwrites that account's cloud source.
An upload failure does not mean the local save failed. Check the local content, sign-in, and plan status before retrying; do not treat Sync Now as an unconditional overwrite.
- Keep a copy of the script source and compare the local and cloud versions.
- Choose which version to keep after reading the replacement confirmation.
- If upload failed, check the local save, account sign-in, and plan before retrying.
Each conflict-resolution choice replaces a specific local or cloud version.
How do I backtest a custom strategy?
Strategy Replay requires Pro. Create and validate a supported strategy script, start a data replay, then open Strategy Replay and choose the script, timeframe, parameters, and run mode.
Live mode follows the current replay event by event. Full-test mode calculates the event range allowed for the current scenario; while blind practice is in progress, it can test only the revealed prefix. After the session ends, you can test the full scenario. Review status, orders, fills, and performance before interpreting the result.
- Create a strategy script and validate it.
- Start replay and open Strategy Replay.
- Choose the script, timeframe, parameters, and run mode.
- Run the strategy, then check its status, orders, fills, and performance.
Strategy Replay requires Pro; blind-session tests are limited to revealed events until the session ends.
Are strategy results separate from manual trading results?
Yes. Manual trading and strategy runs use separate ledgers; strategy orders and equity are not manual positions or manual-trading performance.
Check the Paper Trading and Strategy Replay tabs and the result title to confirm which ledger you are viewing. Stopping or rerunning a strategy should affect that strategy run only. To compare results, keep the data, costs, and parameters consistent, and do not combine fills from the two ledgers into one return.
Why can results differ from TradingView or live trading?
DayTradeDrill generates intrabar prices and volume from one-minute OHLC bars and uses its own deterministic events and order-execution rules. These are not historical tick data or guaranteed executable market prices, and the product does not connect to a live broker or place real trades.
Results may differ because of the data, warm-up history, costs, contract settings, supported script features, starting point, or execution model. Errors or resource limits can leave an incomplete run; use those partial records for troubleshooting, not as a complete backtest or a promise of future profit.
Simulated results do not guarantee future performance.
